Lesson 1, Topic 1
In Progress

State one medical and one industrial use of radioactive isotopes

The radioactive isotope Cobalt-60 is used in medicine to treat cancer tumors. The γ-rays of the isotope penetrates and kills weak cancer cells.

The radioactive isotope Uranium-235 is used in nuclear power stations. The isotope splits into smaller particles because of bombardment by neutrons. This releases large amounts of energy that is then utilized by the nuclear power stations.
