Define isotopes as atoms of the same element which have the same proton number but a different nucleon number

Isotopes are defined as atoms of the same element with the same proton number but different nucleon number.

Understand that isotopes have the same properties because they have the same number of electrons in their outer shell.

Chemical properties of an element are dependent on the number of electrons, this is since it is the electrons of the atom that bond with other atoms. Thus isotopes have the same chemical properties as the original element since only the number of neutrons change.
