Definitions

Kinematics describes how objects move.

Below are some important definitions:

Distance: Total length covered irrespective of the direction of motion of object.

Displacement: Distance an object moves in a specific direction.

Speed: Distance travelled by an object per unit time. This does not take into account the direction the object moves.

Velocity: Displacement of an object per unit time. This takes into account the direction the object moves.

Acceleration: This is the rate of change of velocity.
